The Department of Environmental Sciences at Emory University seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate focused on agricultural adaptation to changing climate in the southeastern US. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will join an interdisciplinary and trans-institutional project integrating big geospatial data with qualitative data to model and understand agricultural adaptation. This individual will conduct key informant interviews with agricultural stakeholders across the state of Georgia to understand (1) the climate change impacts they already see or anticipate on their operations or amongst their communities, (2) their adaptive strategies, (3) technological, political-economic, and farm-level barriers and bridges they anticipate facing when implementing these strategies, and (4) their visions for the future of their operation or community.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be mentored by Dr. Emily Burchfield who has teaching and research interests in sustainable food systems, spatial data science, and mixed methods research. In addition to their research, the individual will be encouraged to mentor talented undergraduates, guest lecture in classes, and develop innovative pedagogy at a leading liberal arts institution. The position will last one year.
Qualification
Candidates should have a PhD in the social sciences, environmental sciences, or agricultural sciences. Demonstrated qualitative research experience is a must, with a preference for candidates who have experience working in U.S. agricultural systems, ideally in the state of Georgia. Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the start date.
