The Environmental Microfluidics Group of Prof. Roman Stocker at the Institute of Environmental Engineering of ETH Zurich is seeking a dynamic and motivated Scientific Program Manager. Funding for this position is available for at least five years with renewal possibilities.
Project background
The PriME Collaboration, funded by the New York-based Simons Foundation, studies the Principles of Microbial Ecosystems (“PriME”), with the main focus on marine bacterial communities that are foundational for many ecological and biogeochemical processes. PriME is a highly interdisciplinary team that includes 10 leading research groups in the United States, Germany and Switzerland, comprising around 40 researchers. The collaboration is led by Prof. Roman Stocker at ETH Zurich and Prof. Otto Cordero at MIT. To support its management team, enhance the impact and improve synergies, PriME is looking for a Scientific Program Manager.
Job description
You will support PriME directors (Cordero and Stocker) and PIs by taking the lead in all organizational and operational aspects of the PriME network. Responsibilities will include, among others: organization of local and global team meetings, both in-person and virtual; scientific reporting; liaison with the Simons Foundation on administrative, operational and financial matters; internal dissemination of information and opportunities; external dissemination of research results, primarily through the collaboration’s website (www.primecollaboration.org) and social media; support in recruiting and orienting new team members; support and oversight in exchanges between individual research groups; establishment and support of links with other Collaborations funded by the Simons Foundation; and guidance of individual PIs in reporting activities and interactions with the Simons Foundation. You will have ample opportunities to proactively contribute ideas and activities to foster synergies, team building, outreach and education.

Your profile
- PhD in Biology (preferably Microbiology), Ecology, Biophysics or Bioengineering
- At least three years of postdoctoral experience
- Excellent interpersonal relationship qualities and the ability to work in and for a team
- Fluency in English (written and oral) and strong communication skills
- Proven conceptual, organizational and collaborative skills
- Previous experience in scientific coordination and/or in the management of large research projects
- Proven reliability and ability to work under strict deadlines
