Overview

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards.

The research unit Forest Resources and Management analyses status and development in forests. The Swiss National Forest Inventory (NFI) is the benchmark reference to evaluate status and changes of forest resources in Switzerland. By June 2022, the group Scientific Service NFI, is offering a two-year position as Technician in forest statistics 80-100% (f/m/d)
You will work in direct collaboration with the Swiss NFI program (www.lfi.ch) to support the planning of the forthcoming 6th NFI cycle. As part of the method development for the 6th Swiss NFI, you will be responsible for investigating different approaches to increase the efficiency. The topics mainly include the optimal use of remote sensing data and adaptations of the sampling design. Your work will serve as basis for decision-making, and should therefore be documented in a complete, concise and structured manner.

Qualification

You have a professional background in statistics/mathematics or environmental/forest sciences (at least master-level) and have experience in sampling techniques for forest inventories. You are fluent in English (written and spoken) and a good command of German is an advantage. You are creative and communicative, a willing team player, and have also an independent and structured way of working. Conceptual skills and professional conduct complete your profile.

Application

Please send your complete application to Stefania Pe, Human Resources WSL, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered. Berthold Traub, phone +41 (0)44 739 28 61, will be happy to answer any questions or offer further information. The WSL strives to increase the proportion of women in its employment, which is why qualified women are particularly called upon to apply for this position. Submit your application here
