Position description
We are seeking a new colleague to help deliver our MSc/MRes Bioinformatics courses and, in particular, to teach Python and Data Science.
Our MSc & MRes Bioinformatics programmes are designed to meet the needs of students coming from biology or computing backgrounds who are seeking employment in genomic, pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechnology industries or to progress to PhD study. Birkbeck specialises in evening teaching and offers these courses in full-time and part-time modes. Consequently, in addition to those progressing directly from their first degree, many students are experienced professionals.
The courses are delivered entirely online with live sessions for the modules presently running in the afternoons and evenings. The successful candidate will be expected to produce recorded video lecture content and deliver live lectures and tutorials, to create course materials, to set and mark assessments and will provide high quality and timely feedback to students. They will also participate in devising and supervising MSc and MRes Bioinformatics projects.
The successful applicant will have a track record in bioinformatics research, and substantial programming experience. They should be a clear and effective communicator. Previous teaching experience would be advantageous.
