Bridge Professorship (W2-Professorship) “Plant Root Sciences” (all genders welcome)
Overview:
We are searching for an engaged and team-minded personality with high international visibility in the field of plant root sciences and a special focus on crops. Research shall focus on elucidating fundamental mechanisms in root development, root morphology, root physiology and/or the interaction between roots and their rhizosphere microbiome with the ultimate goal to improve resource efficiency and plant tolerance against biotic or abiotic stresses. Using the plant genetic resources and phenotyping infrastructure at IPK, innovative approaches shall address root traits and root performance, incl. changes in the rhizosphere microbiome, to improve crop adaptation to agricultural systems and climate change. The pro- posed research program shall be internationally competitive and combine theory with practice according to the guidelines of the Leibniz Association.
The position is mainly located at IPK, where she/he will be heading a research group on root sciences. She/he shall employ and advance the development of research infrastructures for root phenotyping in the new plant cultivation hall. Previous research work of the applicant should be documented by excellent publications. Successful experiences in the acquisition of research grants are expected. The candidate will contribute two weekly teaching hours to the teaching of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Georg- August University Göttingen. The professorship will be integrated in the research-intensive Master’s programme “Integrated Plant and Animal Breeding” as well as in other programmes of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level. The willingness and ability to teach in English is expected. The requirements for appointment to a professorship result from § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the currently valid version. The Foundation University of Göttingen has the right of appointment. Details will be explained upon request.
The position holder is expected to have an interdisciplinary orientation and a willingness to cooperate across faculties. There are excellent opportunities for research cooperation with universities and research institutions in Germany and abroad as well as with internationally active breeding companies. Cooperation with the Centre for Integrated Breeding Research (CiBreed) is expected.
